Support all committed relationships with Ref. 74
Our culture continues to struggle to maintain committed relationships. For example, about 47 percent of first marriages end in divorce. A February 2012 New York Times article reported that 50 percent of all births are born to single mothers under the age of 30. Adults need more support services to maintain healthy, committed relationships. Let's encourage, rather than discourage, all those who wish to marry and to make a public commitment about their union.

The definition of marriage has continued to evolve throughout history. Women are no longer seen as men's property, and interracial marriages are not forbidden. Children benefit by being exposed to a wide variety of ways men and women can relate to each other in healthy ways, especially when they are no longer limited by gender stereotypes. The American Academy of Pediatrics agrees legalizing same-sex marriage promotes healthy families and children.

Respect the dignity of all people. Join with me to vote "yes" on Referendum 74. Support everyone enjoying the same civil rights and privileges to marry whomever one chooses.
