FOPP replaces movie selection
The free Friends of Pavillion Park movie scheduled for Aug. 14 at Pavillion Park has been changed to "Il Postino: The Postman." The movie is rated PG and starts at dusk.

In the 1994 Italian film about love and friendship, a simple postman makes deliveries to a famous poet and develops a love for poetry, which he uses to woo a local woman.

The movie was changed from an R-rated feature previously announced this year.

LL pair to dance at art event
Liberty Lake residents Katie Park and Sydnee Scofield will perform Saturday in the Inland Northwest Dance Association's Dance Day Celebration as part of Art on the Green in Coeur d'Alene.

The show will be 11 a.m. to noon and will include instruction on a hip-hop routine.

Bed races canceled for LL Days
The bed races for Liberty Lake Days this weekend have been canceled, organizers said.

The Liberty Lake Lion's Club, which had planned the races as a fundraiser, was unable to get enough participants for this year's event.

Rotary holds cruise raffle
The Liberty Lake Rotary Club's cruise raffle drawing has been rescheduled for Saturday in Pavillion Park during Liberty Lake Days.

The winner will be announced at about 3:40 p.m. A total of 500 tickets are being sold for $10 each for a chance to win $2,500 plus a roundtrip ticket toward a preferred cruise.

Apply for tourism funds
The city of Liberty Lake is accepting applications for tourism promotion funding for 2011. Applications are due by 4 p.m. Sept. 3, and the projects or events must take place between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011.

Funding comes from the city's tourism fund, which is fed by hotel/motel taxes from lodging establishments within the city.

The funding is available to applicants for tourism marketing and promotion or operation of tourism-related facilities.

Legos coming to library
Lego Mindstorm is coming to the Liberty Lake Municipal Library in August.

Council holds ice cream social
The public is invited to meet Liberty Lake City Council members and discuss topics of interest to community members during an upcoming ice cream social.

The social will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Liberty Lake Sewer and Water District building, 22510 E. Mission Ave.

Complimentary ice cream will be served.

Movies shown at library
The Liberty Lake Municipal Library is showing movies featuring water at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays until Aug. 4.

Movie-goers of all ages are encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring pillows. Popcorn will be served.

Parenting forum to meet
Spokane Valley's Mindful Mamas is holding a parenting forum on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.
The free forum meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Liberty Lake Municipal Library's meeting room, 23123 E. Mission Ave.

Toastmasters seeks members
Liberty Lake Toastmasters meets weekly from 5:45 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Denny Ashlock building, 22510 E. Mission Ave.

Guests are welcome to learn more about Toastmasters, gain confidence in public speaking in a safe environment and develop better communication skills.

City hosts Senior Lunch Program
The Senior Lunch Program in Liberty Lake is served Mondays and Wednesdays. Seniors age 60 and older are invited at 11 a.m. at Liberty Lake City Hall, 22710 E. Country Vista Drive.

The recommended donation is $3.50.

LL police offer car seat checks
The Liberty Lake Police Department provides free car seat inspections by appointment.

Residents can contact Officer Erin Lance, who is a certified child safety passenger technician, to inspect child car seats and answer questions about proper installation techniques.

Reading program features water
The Liberty Lake Municipal Library is sponsoring a reading program with activities and programs this summer around the theme, "Make a Splash, Make Waves and Water Your Mind."

Patrons of all ages can pick up a reading log and a calendar of events at the library. In addition, the library is offering programs that correspond with the summer's theme at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and at 11 a.m. on Fridays.

Two book clubs for adults are offered at the Liberty Lake Municipal Library, 23123 E. Mission Ave. These book discussion groups plan to meet the second week of each month.

Free class offered for abuse victims
A.R.M.S. (Abuse Recovery Ministry Services) offers free, confidential, weekly classes in Liberty Lake to help victims of domestic violence and abuse. For more information, call 484-0600 (calls are confidential).
