Inaugural LLCT production was a delight Special to The Splash Crickets chirping in the forest. Merry men and guards - delightful kids dressed as such. A silly bandit, a fair maid and an evil prince. All this and more set the stage for the Liberty Lake Community Theatre's short play "Hood, of Sherwood." Last Saturday, more chairs were set in place for the finale performance of LLCT's first production. More than 150 people attended one of three plays that were held during spring break at Guardian Angel Homes. Hood, of Sherwood is a wacky comedy based on Robin not being able to quite remember if he and his merry men "rob from the poor and give to the rich" or vice versa. The set design and props were simple, but perfect. The costumes and make-up were great. And the performances were fantastic to boot. The entire crew, including the adorable merry men - all girls, with half-shaven faces and beards - truly did a great job, and it was obvious the fun they were having on stage. The standouts in the play included Robin played by Coral Rankin, Friar Tuck played by Shaylin Pennestri, Allen A Dale played by Samuel Baker, Little John played by Madison Goldfeldt and Maid Marian played by Melissa Morgan. Their exaggerated gestures and facial expressions were right on cue and in perfect character. In one scene, the rich man declares to Robin, "And now I'm penniless - would it naturally follow I be a prime recipient?" "I'm afraid he's right lads," says Robin to his merry men -- to which they all shouted out, "Robin, no!" It drew lots of laughter from the crowd. There were a few madrigals and lots more laughs throughout.
And in the audience were families and friends. In the front row sat many kids, some making new friends, all of them with big smiles on their faces as they enjoyed the funny dialogue and great acting. |
