A SAD DAY FOR MOOSE, a sad day for liberty lake
A moose calf was shot and killed by accident in Liberty Lake Tuesday, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officials sent to scare the moose away.

The moose was shot with a cracker shell, which is intended to help herd the animals, a report on krem.com said.

Agents were called to scare off a moose and her calf that had been spotted hanging out for days near Agilent, Itron and other businesses near Appleway and Molter roads.

The moose were among several that have been spotted around the community this year.

Most residents have done well just to enjoy the new neighbors, keep at a distance and leave the moose to themselves. If the moose are in danger themselves or are posing a threat, the Department of Fish and Wildlife may be called.

Last week, we ran some photos of moose captured mainly on cell phone cameras. That spurred many residents to share more photos with us, many of these of high quality. We thought it appropriate to share several of these great photos at left.

Keep them coming, and let's watch out for all our neighbors, including those with four legs. Chances are, they've been here longer than we have.

Photo Tribute to Moose

When Shannon VanCurler submitted this photo of a moose taking it easy at a residence on East Second Avenue, she titled it "the cutest moose in town." Hard to argue.
