Brumbach named editor of Splash

From Staff Reports

LIBERTY LAKE - Hope Brumbach was hired as editor of The Liberty Lake Splash earlier this month, taking the reins of the news and feature content for the weekly newspaper.

Brumbach spent three years as an award-winning reporter for The Daily News in Longview, Wash., much of that time on the education beat. For the past year and a half, she has been a freelance writer for The Spokesman-Review and a variety of local magazines, including BUILDING, PRIME and Inland Northwest Homes & Lifestyles.

"The Splash has been fortunate to grow alongside the community the past several years, and Hope is well-suited to lead the newspaper in the next step of this steady progression," Splash Publisher Josh Johnson said. "She's an immensely talented reporter and writer, and I'm confident her abilities and leadership skills will help our newspaper raise the bar another level."

Among the professional awards Brumbach has received for her stories are several Excellence in Journalism awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, including first place in the category of "social issues," second place for "education" and "investigative reporting" and a third place for "spot news."

Brumbach said she is eager to acquaint herself with the Liberty Lake community and its stories.

"I am thrilled to join the staff of The Splash," Brumbach said, "and I'm looking forward to continuing and improving the newspaper's track record in the community."

Born in the Midwest, Brumbach moved to Coeur d'Alene when she was in junior high and graduated from Lake City High School. She studied at Whitworth University, and graduated in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and political studies. After her time in Longview, Brumbach and her husband, Zach, moved to Coeur d'Alene. Dr. Zach Brumbach operates Brumbach Family Dentistry in Post Falls.

As editor of The Splash, Brumbach shapes and directs the direction of all news and feature content for the newspaper. She is the lead reporter for the newspaper, while overseeing a pool of freelancers and a part-time reporter position. Johnson and Special Projects Editor Tammy Kimberley also occasionally report for The Splash. Johnson is solely responsible for opinion page content.

Brumbach replaces former Splash Editor Evan Jensen, who is now editor and general manager of the Estacada News in Estacada, Ore.
