CVSD serves free meals
The Central Valley School District is planning to serve free meals to hundreds of hungry children this summer.
Starting this week, children can enjoy a free, nutritious breakfast and lunch served at Broadway Elementary School.
The Summer Nutrition Program is offered at no cost to all children, 18 years and younger. Registration is not required, and children do not need to be a CVSD student to participate.
The district is offering free meals at Broadway Elementary, 11016 E. Broadway, Mondays through Thursdays through July 23. Breakfast is served from 7:15 to 8 a.m., and lunch is served from noon to 12:45 p.m.
The district launched the Summer Nutrition Program in 2004. Since then, the program has served more than 12,000 meals. The program is funded through a reimbursement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture at no cost to the district.
Accident snarls state line traffic
Traffic backed up for miles on Interstate 90 near the state line last week in a multi-vehicle accident that sent one driver to the hospital with injuries. Advertisement

Police say the evening commute last Friday backed up as far as 6 miles near Liberty Lake. The slow-moving traffic jam was caused by an accident in which a 51-year-old man's truck crossed the median, entered the eastbound lanes of I-90 and crashed head-on into another vehicle.
