About The Splash

The first issue of The Liberty Lake Splash was published in September 1999, and the newspaper has been a regular staple of the community's reading list ever since. Founded by Shaun and Nathan Brown, the newspaper was purchased by Peridot Publishing LLC on March 26, 2004.

The staff of The Liberty Lake Splash includes:

Josh Johnson, Publisher
Josh came to The Splash in March 2004 after working in various journalism jobs in the Midwest, including time as a reporter, copy editor and opinion page editor. Before coming to the Splash, he was opinion page editor of The Benton County Daily Record in Bentonville, Ark. Josh was raised in Liberty Lake and graduated from Central Valley High School. He received a bachelors degree in journalism at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark.
Kim Johnson, Business Manager
Kim also joined The Splash team in March 2004. Her background is in social work, and she has worked as a development coordinator for Our Farm Inc., a nonprofit agency in Rogers, Ark., that works with at-risk teenagers. In her position, she raised funds and awareness for the agency. A native of Decatur, Ill., she received her bachelors degree in family and human services from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark.

Evan Jensen, Editor
Evan joined The Splash in January 2005 after working as a freelance writer for newspapers and magazines in Oklahoma. As a long-distance runner, he has finished more than 20 marathons and often runs along the Centennial Trail. Evan's wife, Melinda, is a portrait and wedding photographer and native of Spokane Valley. While his hometown is Hillsboro, Ore., Evan received a bachelor's degree in communication studies at Eastern Washington University and a graduate degree in journalism at the University of Oklahoma.

Janet Pier, Account Executive
Janet started work at The Splash in August 2006. She has several years of experience in radio and television advertising, including work with KZZU-FM, Oldies 101.1 FM and the Belo Corporation representing Northwest Cable News. Janet grew up in South Carolina, studied business at the University of Montana, moved to Spokane in 1985, and now resides in Liberty Lake with her husband, Dave, and their two children.

Tammy Kimberley, Special Projects Editor
Tammy Kimberley joined The Splash in January 2008 after working as a communications coordinator in Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. Tammy guides the production of a variety of special sections for The Splash and the community directories published by Peridot Publishing LLC. Tammy grew up in Decatur, Ill., and graduated from John Brown University with a degree in journalism in 1997. Tammy is the sister of Business Manager Kim Johnson, who with husband and Liberty Lake native Josh owns Peridot Publishing. Tammy is married to her husband Chad, and they have three children.

Sarah Haggart, Graphics Editor
Sarah Haggart joined The Splash in February 2008. She previously worked for several Spokane-area printing companies as a graphic designer graduated from Montana State University in 2005. At MSU, she was part of a 12-member committee that helped select a new logo for the Bobcats. Sarah lives in Liberty Lake with her fiancé, Bret Burk, who is an inside sales and customer service representative for Keller Supply in Coeur d’ Alene. Sarah helps produce the weekly issue of the Liberty Lake Splash, special sections and community directories.
